How We Can Help You

Pre and Post Operative Management

At Elite Physiotherapy we strongly believe in holistic pre and post operative management for all of our clients. We utilise a combination of manual and exercise therapy in order to achieve optimal outcomes for our clients when undergoing surgery. Here is what you can expect pre and post surgery at Elite Physiotherapy.

We highly recommend completing a block of “prehab” prior to surgery. We know that improving these factors leads to better outcomes post operatively and sometimes a faster recovery.

During your prehab phase we will prescribe specific exercises aimed at improving:

  • Strength
  • Range of motion
  • Balance and/or stability
  • Aerobic exercise

Our physios will be able to determine appropriate exercises in which you are challenged and remain safe. We strongly believe in staying as active as possible prior to surgery. Our physios will be able to safely guide you through cardiovascular exercise in the lead up to your procedure.

In the week prior to your surgery, your physio will perform a variety of standardised assessments to collect data on where you stand.

This could range from:

  • Range of motion measures
  • Strength assessments
  • Force plate data
  • Functional hopping tests
  • Muscle girth measurements.

We collect this data in order to have a baseline measure of your function. In this way, we are able to target and direct your post operative rehab and ensure we get you back to at least your baseline. This is essential in sporting injuries, where we need to meet specific milestones upon return to training and sport.

Post operatively, we offer symptom management and liaise with your surgeon regarding your limitations. Through ongoing assessments, we are able toguide you safely back to exercise, sport, work or whatever your desired outcome is. We will constantly refer back to our baseline, pre-surgery data, ensuring that we remain on track and deliver superb outcomes.
